It has been a while since I tried shooting splash shots again, and this time around I’m equipped with two speedlites and a strobe. The setup I used with this shot is very simple. I used two speedlites to light the subject from left and right of the fish bowl (Yes, I used a fish bowl instead of an aquarium for the shot simply because I have no aquarium available, damn, and using that fish bowl gave me a lot of problems because of its round shape). The third strobe I used to light the background to give it separation from the subject.
I’m a bit surprised that it took so little power to light up this image, the two flash I used was juiced up to only 1/64 power. I used 100 iso at F/16 with the maximum sync speed my 400d can do which is at 1/125 of a sec. I’m pretty happy with the results of the shoot though I really needed some shutter speed to completely stop the orange and the splash. Sadly, I only have radio trigger pt-04 for the shoot so I’m maxed out at 1/125 shutter speed. So solution? invest in a better body, or save up for some pocket wizards! =D
